Stephanie Stecken - Office Manager / Administrative Assistant
I have lived in Groveland Township my whole life, with the exception of two short stints - one spent in Woodford County and the other in Peoria County (and I am not taking about jails!!) Before coming to the Township, I worked for the Kroger Company from 1980 to 1993, ending my career with Kroger on June 4, 1993, and starting my career with the Township on June 7, 1993. I have two beautiful twin daughters, and we all enjoy horseback riding, fishing, and just about anything outdoors.

Dan McCormick - Supervisor
I have lived most of my adult life in Groveland Township, and I have had an interest in township government since the mid 70’s. I believe township government is the most grassroots form of government because citizens do help make all of the major decisions. My experiences in township government include terms as trustee, town clerk, and township supervisor. As your supervisor, it is my responsibility to make sure that your tax dollars are spent wisely and that all township funds are responsibly handled.
My wife Rae Lyn and I have lived for the past decade and more in the Whispering Oaks area of Groveland. She is a retired realtor, and I am a retired school administrator. We have children and grandchildren who live in East Peoria and Groveland Township. Besides being elected to township government, I also served a productive term on the East Peoria City Council.
Even though public service has lost some of its glamour, I believe good officials can make a difference in the way services are delivered to communities. That is why I spend part of each weekday in the township office making sure that all of us remain committed to doing our best for you.
From the Desk of the Supervisor
Jim McCool - Road Commissioner
I moved from Morton Township to Groveland Township in 2012 and bought a house located not far from the Township Office/Road District. I had introduced myself to the “then” Road Commissioner of the Township to gain knowledge of how our roads and right-of-ways were taken care of in this unincorporated area of Groveland Township. During our occasional conversations the outgoing Commissioner had mentioned that he was thinking of retiring. So having 38 years’ experience in Road and Bridge construction, I thought that this would be a great opportunity to serve the community. I expressed my thoughts and desires to the outgoing Road Commissioner, along with the Township Board.
When the time came the Board voted to appoint me to the position of Road Commissioner beginning Jan. 1, 2015. It is my goal to keep our streets and right-of-ways in all the unincorporated rural areas that are under Township maintenance, in the best shape for the most cost-effective way so that the taxpayers of Groveland Township get the most for their dollars..
From the Desk of the Road Commissioner
Nick Gauwitz - Road Foreman
Hi, my name is Nick, and I have lived in Groveland Township since 1989. I came to work for the Township as a seasonal employee back in 1994 while working as a snow bird for IDOT. In 2003 I came on board full time, becoming the Road Department Foreman in 2007. When not working, my brother and I farm the family’s farm. I also enjoy fishing, Cub’s baseball, Bradley basketball, and hanging around with my three children.
Pamela Christianson - Town Clerk
I was born and raised in Peoria, but after I married my husband Dale in 1964, I became a Tazewell County resident. We have two sons and seven grandchildren: three grandsons and four granddaughters. Since 2010 we have added three great-granddaughters to the family tree. Being a bit of a late bloomer, I went back to school after my sons left home and received my BA in Liberal Arts and Science from Bradley University in 1996. Since then I have worked in “NIH Granted Research” as a research consultant and data collection specialist. At the present time I am semi-retired but - still wanting to be active - took on the position of Town Clerk in May 2012 to finish the term of the previous clerk. Like so many things in my life, I didn’t go out seeking a new venture; it seemed to find me. This being my first venture into Public Service, I am finding that this position is much more than recorder of the minutes of various meetings. It includes but is not limited to:
- Preparing the monthly agenda
- Recording the minutes of regular meetings/special meetings/hearings
- County Clerk Filings
- Public Notices
- Key Official in charge of Township Elections
RaeLyn McCormick - Assessor
I have been a resident of Groveland Township since 1998 and am very familiar with the area. I am a
graduate of the University of Illinois - Springfield and spent 25 years in the social service field before
changing careers. In 2008 I received my Illinois Real Estate Salesperson License and in 2012 earned my
Illinois Real Estate Broker's License. I earned my Certified Illinois Assessing Officer (CIAO) designation in
2013. I had been working as the Deputy Assessor for the past year prior to my appointment as Assessor.
I understand the importance and responsibility of providing fair and accurate assessments to over
10,000 parcels of property in Groveland Township. I look forward to assisting the citizens of Groveland
Township and plan to keep regular office hours when not out in the field assessing property. Please call
our office (387-8092) or stop by the township if you have questions or concerns.
Tony Feger - Trustee
I was born and raised in Groveland Township, loving every minute of it. I currently live in Marquette Heights with my wife Melinda, and our three boys: Devin, Damick, and Drew. Currently I am employed as an equipment operator at Midwest Generation Powerton Station in Pekin, IL. I am also a proud member of IBEW Local 15 and have been since 2000. Before that I worked at Morton Metalcraft, hiring in there after graduating from East Peoria Community High School in 1992. In my spare time I enjoy working on cars and going to open wheel races. I have been honored to be the voice for the people of Groveland Township since 2005, as I feel that it is a great honor to be a voice for the community.
John Shallenberger - Trustee
My name is John R. Shallenberger, and I was born and raised in Pekin, Illinois. I married my wife Debbie in 1973 and bought a house in Creve Coeur, where we raised our two sons. We are grandparents to one grandson and one granddaughter. In 1999 I ran as a write-in candidate for Creve Coeur Village Board as a Trustee and won and served a four-year term. I also serve on the Executive Board of UAW Local 974 and the Board of Directors for the UAW Senior Citizens High-Rise since 1996. I was appointed to Trustee of Groveland Township in 2012 to fulfill Trustee Barb Hart's position after she passed away. Barb was a friend of mine, and I felt honored to finish her term for her. I always looked up to her when it came to being fiscally responsible for local government, Village of Creve Coeur and now in Groveland Township.
James Tabor - Trustee
I have been a resident of Groveland Township since my wife Brenda and I moved to Creve Coeur in 1989. I am retired from Caterpillar and am a proud member of UAW Local 974 and its retiree’s chapter, serving as 1st Vice Chairman. I am also an election-coordinator and a precinct committee person in Groveland 9.
I am honored to have been recently appointed Trustee in April 2015 to fulfill the term of out-going Trustee John Arnold who moved out of the Township.
Mike Turner - Trustee
My name is Michael R. Turner; I was born in Alexandria, Louisiana and was raised most of my childhood in Peoria, Illinois. I married my wife Lori in 1981. We bought a home in Washington, Illinois, where we raised our three children. We are also the proud grandparents of two grandsons. Lori and I moved to Groveland in 2008, where we were ordained and currently serve as pastors of Christ Followers Church, formerly the Heartland Christian Fellowship Church. We run a local food bank out of the Church, servicing on an average 120 families per month. I enjoy being helpful to others in need and look forward to doing the same as a Trustee of Groveland Township. I am employed as a maintenance Technician for Tazewell County. I believe in God, family, and community. I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, fishing, hunting, playing Frisbee golf, and watching football. My desire is to see our community excel, while making sure our tax dollars are used wisely.
